How Do I Deal With Flying?

Flying isn’t for everyone, and that is fine. Some people will fly all of the time and breeze through it, others will avoid flying at all costs.
In this blog post, I will talk about how I deal with flying and some techniques I use. On a few flights I have been anxious, but I am able to deal with it.
Flying is a scary process; the main reason is because you’re simply not in control. You think of bad scenarios. What I think about to get me through is about how many planes are off the ground right this second, thousands and thousands across the world! Hundreds of thousands of people are in the sky right now. You don’t hear bad stories very often do you? Planes are advanced and are flown by intelligent, experienced pilots.
My Steps:
Keep yourself busy: You can listen to music, do work, watch movies, sleep, the list goes on. I download hundreds of songs on Spotify, that will take up a large section of the flight. I try to do school work, when I have to think and answer questions it distracts me. I also watch movies, downloaded on Netflix.
Calm yourself down: Breathe and relax. Easier said than done, but this will help. Constantly talk to yourself (in you thoughts) and tell yourself everything will be fine and you have nothing to worry about. A lot of the time we are always over complicating situations and making it worse. Reassurance from yourself and others can go a long way.
Research and know facts: Thinking about whether the plane will go down, if my life jacket will work or if there will be turbulence; will not be beneficial. Know that the odds of a plane crashing is 1 in 11 million chance of happening – yet we are still afraid. Your life jacket will work and the turbulence; planes fly through turbulence everyday – pilots are trained on how to deal with it.
I hope my steps have helped. If you have not found them useful, you can trial other techniques and see if they work for you.
